Col. John Montgomery Historic Preservation Award

The Col. John Montgomery Historic Preservation Award, named for Montgomery County's namesake, recognizes historic active preservation successes throughout the county.  The key word is preservation of historical landmarks.  This award gives preservation its most-important voice.
The site/structure must be readily recognizable, 75 years or older, and architecturally significant.

  • 2017 - Cumberland Hall (Robb-Hayes house), 529 York St.
  • 2018 - Allendale Farm, Allen-Griffey Rd.
  • 2019 - Conroy Corner, 1202 Madison St.
  • 2021 - Old Methodist Church, 4th & Main Sts.

Cave Johnson "Stamp of Approval" Award

The Cave Johnson "Stamp of Approval" Award recognizes outstanding local history such as places, events and activities that lend support for preservation of local history.  The award is specifically designed to show the Society's endorsement of a project.
The recognized entity is steadfast in its support of preservation, and either demonstrates that it is educationally supportive of and complementary to local history, or demonstrates successful repurposing of a structure or site while maintaining its historic integrity.

  • 2018 - Lurton-Conroy House, 625 Madison St.
  • 2019 - Serepta Jordan Journal restoration
  • 2021 - Commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of Woman Suffrage
  • 2022 - Clarksville Then and Now project, downtown Clarksville

Robert Thompson Cemetery Preservation Award

The Robert Thompson Cemetery Preservation Award recognizes leadership in preserving cemeteries.  The award is given to the organization, profit or non-profit, that serves as the preservationist.
The recipient generates good will and understanding with the developing community, and preserves historic artifacts rather than destroying them.  All cemeteries in Montgomery County are eligible.  The size, age and condition of the cemetery is taken into account.

  • 2015 - Reuben Ross Cemetery, Current Rd.
  • 2016 - Benevolent Lodge No. 210 Cemetery, Old Clarksville-Springfield Rd.

  • 2018 - Johnson-Killebrew Cemetery, Wilma Rudolph Blvd.
